Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
*sigh* While I imagine many people have already heard about this, I'm gonna add a few more things here. GoldsAdventureStorys is no more. It has been suspended. Yeah...subscribe to GoldFinale if you haven't already, because that's where he is now.
We're pretty confident it was the opening theme he tried to use for his newest episode of Toran's Fate (Damn, I wish I'd gotten to see it beforehand). Still not entirely sure if it was a troll attack or if the scanners have gotten better, but regardless, this doesn't bode well for the rest of us. To me, this seems like a REALLY BIG warning.
I, for one, am concerned that the Youtube scanners may be getting better. They still don't seem to be able to sense the Trick, luckily, but I think that more songs are getting added to their "hunt-down" list. So Youtube is cracking the copyright whip on us again, and if we're going to stick around, we've gotta adapt. Either start Tricking every potentially "dangerous" song you have by at least +/-10% (or a pitch change of at least +/1.7 or -1.9), or make your own OSTs. Trying to avoid this is going to get you suspended; download an Audacity program if you need to, but make sure you safeguard your music resources.
...While I'm here, I'm going to add something else. One of my OSTs that I made recently was also a sort of test against the scanners. The track Suspenseful Event, posted on my channel, was based off the song What If by Simple Plan. I used synthesizers to imitate the opening violins in the song, so it sounds similar, but only if you're already familiar with the song.
Why am I bringing this up? Relax, I'm not fishing for viewers. I'm actually mentioning it because it has made me think that Synthesizers can also trick the scanners. The songs and pitches the scanners look for are very specific, so specific that they'll only recognize that specific song with those specific sounds. If someone were to try and duplicate the sounds of their favorite songs in a music program...I think that could also Trick them as well.
I'm not going to reccomend it yet, though, because I'm still not sure that it'll work. However, for all you dedicated OST makers with cool new music programs, I strongly suggest that a few of us try it out. Take a snippet of your favorite song, listen to it, and try to duplicate it in your music programs. Use any instruments you want; just make sure it still sounds like the song you're trying to imitate. Then, give it a Sound Test, and see if the scanners attack it. Heck, it doesn't even have to be the whole song; just 10 or 20 seconds of music will tell you if the new Trick worked.
My Suspenseful Event theme is enough to convince me that it'll work, but I'm still not 100% sure that it wasn't a fluke. And, I still think it's time to start creating a pool of hacker music resources, filled with OSTs and songs specifically designed to avoid Youtube scanners...Any volunteers to help me test this new Trick idea? Besides, that way, if something like ACTA comes along to screw us over, we'd still have a chance at fighting back...

Does this include all songs or just the "really good" ones?
I don't have any music editing programs so, if the question above is a "yes", I might need help with that....

*sigh* Any music that's been hit in the past, and any songs from the same animes or popular animes are also at risk. So, any popular opening or ending themes for anime are at biggest risk. If it has lyrics, it's almost definitely at risk. Basically, if you don't think it's safe - typically things like music from pokemon games are safe, for instance - just hit it with the Trick and make an extra copy of the song that you can use for episodes.
As for altering the pitch...dude, just get Audacity. It's a free program you can get online, I got it and I use it sometimes so it hasn't given me any viruses or anything. Just look it up and download it, then transfer a song into it. Highlight the entire song with Ctrl+A, go to Effects, do a Pitch Change, and alter it by at least +/-10% a pitch change. Then export the song as a new WAV (or MP3) file, and use that for your episodes.
That'll keep you safe from the Youtube scanners. According to what I've seen, and what the other hackers have told me, the Trick is still working. It's only if you don't Trick a song by at least 10%, or don't use it at all, that anybody's had a problem. Oh, and don't talk about it on Youtube. We don't want big brother to find out what we're doing *morbid* Remember, we're basically going against the law right now, or a twisted internet interpretation of it. If we can't avoid the eyes of big brother, the entire hacker community will be eradicated off the face of Youtube. We have to fight in more subtle ways...

*Naruto serious face* Some of that's wrong Avi. They'll take away any opening, as long as it is like a HD song, where you hear it perfectly, they've upgraded scanners to take any song out even with like bits and bits of scrambles and/or bits of talking. So if you try to scramble up a bit of the song, look at Silvershadowmist....My openings outta the picture. So you heard it from me big cousin. We need to figure out as much as we can..And I've found a way.
Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
A lot of the songs I like have already been used in videos if that helps.
I found this http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=63a66ef9e5b15fe7&hl=en

...No, you misunderstood me. I know that even snippets of the ORIGINAL song will get taken down. That's why I said use your own instruments. Use Synthesizers; don't use the actual song, but take a music program and make a song that sounds the same. The scanners shouldn't be able to find that. Or at least I think that's how it works. Not reccomending it yet, 'cuz I'm not entirely sure.

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Not all songs are "dangerous". YouTube has AudioSwap (as the link I posted yesterday says).
What if you put two songs at once (one quieter than the other) together and/or put a song backwards in the video? (Like they'd be the same song at once)
Some songs sound really good that way (backwards). I watched a TV show and someone sang two songs backwards and when they played the tape backwards it sounded like the actual song.

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Actually Avi I was stating that to Manga, and Manga, read my last post..It's the same thing. What are synthesizers Avi? We still got to be cautious on everything that has to do with music. I say we're better off using the same music, but just changing all the instruments to different ones, that way you get the same beat, and if you can a more fitting sound to it.
Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Since YT is starting to pick up on "The Trick", and since not everyone in the community wants to create music, maybe starting a sort of musical library would be helpful.
All I know is, I hope we can find a solution to this problem.

I got an idea in for the pokemon hacker community thingy, add a pokeball thingy, putting in, so we can make post on our music, or any of our tricked music up? Is that a good idea?

...What?
If you're saying we should add a subforum to post OSTs on... beat ya to it. Asked Jamal in a private convo.
I'm not going to say what is being said, though.
That, or you're saying we need more balls... pokeballs, that is.
Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
I beat ya to it...STOP LYING! XD Well, I'll make a youtube account and we can use it to test..If you guys agree the name'll be PokeOstTest

In reply to Silver's earlier statement, a Synthesizer is a virtual instrument. Like a Piano Synthesizer is a program that lets you make Piano music with just a computer. That way, you can use the program to sound like your favorite songs, but it'll still Trick the scanners because it's just different enough from the original.
Also, whaddaya mean the Trick isn't working? I really need to know who's been having trouble with this; tell me what's going on!
...Oh, wait a minute. I bet you I know what this is. You see, I found out something recently. The Trick was something I performed specifically on instrumental music. I recently found out that music with vocals is a little harder to Trick. Instead of tipping it to at least 10%, with singers in the background, you need to trick it a little more. 12% should cover you, but I admittedly haven't tested that yet. Give it a try and see if it works. Music with vocals are more easily detected by the scanners, it seems. Doesn't mean they'll be impossible to Trick too.
Also, I still fully stand behind the idea of creating a hacker music database. If that's what it takes to keep the community going, we'll find out who's still devoted to the cause pretty quickly. Question is, where would we hold a music database? Having a section of the forums dedicated to OSTs would be excellent, but can we really get that installed in the website? I hope so. As much as I'd like to think I've saved the hackers, we can't depend on the Trick to work forever. We need to find an alternative before it stops working, or we'll all be forced to post silent videos...since no other website would be worth abandoning youtube over T_T

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Well, the trick isn't working on opening and ending songs as well.
And I thought you said that the trick isn't working as well on instrumental themes. And even if it is still working, there will be a time when the trick won't work, so the library could be beneficial.
Now, as for the music subforum, I'm not going to say if it's going to be created or not. You guys will have to find out for yourselves. :p
EDIT: Also, Avi, Dailymotion would be the only site that could act as a suitable replacement from Youtube.

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Okay, first of all, I didn't say there were songs it didn't work on. I said I only tested it on instrumentals. When I did a Trick Test for Gold a while back, though, I was using a song with lyrics in it. It was a little harder to Trick; I think I needed 12 or 13% pitch change to make it work, but it did work.xXtyking1224Xx wrote:Well, the trick isn't working on opening and ending songs as well.

...Wait a minute, what? There's songs the Trick doesn't work on?...*expression darkens* Okay, tell me which ones are being troublesome. I want to confirm this myself; the last time someone (Gold) had an issue with the Trick, I was able to Trick it just fine, which tells me he didn't Trick it by the right amount (I think Vegas doesn't go by percent changes, so it's possible). Either that, or my previous theory about video blacklisting may be correct after all >.>
Tell me which songs are being a pain; I wanna see for myself if they give me any trouble too. If I get a Tricked version that doesn't get attacked, I'll send you guys a safe version of it. But, anyway...yeah, our only other option would be Dailymotion, wouldn't it. Too bad nobody's determined enough to make our own video-hosting site. That'd be kickass. Unrealistic, but kickass. XD
In the meantime, though, I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the music subforum. I think that'll help everyone a lot in the near future, to make a music database...I already know lots of music tracks I can contribute that are safe to use. Video game music (as in NOT Kingdom Hearts music) rocks. XD

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
There are songs that pitch changes don't work on. It mainly applies to the more popular anime (Here's looking to you, Naruto). However, it is an instance that has yet to happen to the people in the community.
As for a video site, if we allowed copyright, we could get sued for it. :/
Also, the music subforum is up, but it is for member made OSTs ATM. I could talk to Jamal, Dako, and Austin about seeing if we could also provide a list for non-member made music that works.

Wait, how do you know this? How do you know the Trick doesn't work if it hasn't been tested yet? O.o Granted, it's much harder to test when WMG isn't immediately riding your ass about it...WMG actually makes it easier by telling you right away when it's angry at you. But, there's also the possibility of troll attacks, for which there's no real defense...I really, really wish we could figure out which one it is.
A video site? Meh, true, it would be more dangerous :/ but hey, if it was all our own music, we'd be just fine with copyright issues. But then again, that'd make leaving Youtube pointless *facepalm* Okay, forget I said anything XD
So...where's the new music forum at? SHOW ME THE FORUMS! XD

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Avi it's done, I think we should lock this forum since it's mostly music talk and we got a subforum, and we don't see as many people posting on Gold's pass.
Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
I've seen the Trick not work at all for people that do things like make AMVs, MAD openings, etc.
Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
xXtyking1224Xx wrote:I've seen the Trick not work at all for people that do things like make AMVs, MAD openings, etc.
...Yeah, but typically people who do that don't know about the Pitch Threshold. It has to be at least 10%, or it won't work. A lot of people go by about 5%; that's not enough. I still want to confirm this myself...
But yeah, Silver, you're right, we should lock this forum now. But, could somebody please show me to the music forums? I wanna post some stuff there

Re: Gold Suspended?! More Copyright Info
Actually, some of them do, and the videos still get taken down. :/
Anyway, the music subforum is the Soundtracks subforum under the Hacks section of the forums.
With that, since the creator of this thread requested a lock, it is hereby locked.
