Which Sony Vegas Pro?
-Sorry if this is in the wrong spot-
My friend is hoping to get Sony Vegas for her birthday and she love making AMVs and wants to bring it up to a whole new level above just Windows Movie Maker- which she's still good even then.
She knows I want to hack and my favorite hacker is now using Vegas, so I thought it would be easier if I could just use her copy of Vegas to get it myself.
Which version is perfect for both AMVs and hacking?

For AMVs, Vegas 11 seems to be the way to go (going by past vids on this).
For hacking, however... not entirely sure since it's mainly based on personal preference. Some people use 8, others 9/10, etc. Pretty sure that AMVs could be made with 8-10, just like hacks could be made with 11, so I guess the decision will be based upon which features you and your friend would want and which version can offer said features.

She likes how 11 can make the video 3D.
One thing I would like to know about Vegas is if it can do the same as Flash: You can put a movie clip (like a walking sprite) on the video and have it move around as if it's part of it. I've seen this done before and it looked like the sprites were part of the game when really they weren't being controlled with the arrow keys like in most hacks.

Vegas 11 can do that. My guess is that a walking animation is made in something like, say, Macromedia Fireworks. They record it, Chroma Key the BG away, and then use some of the timeline effect to manipulate the map (or just the sprite) to make the character appear to be walking.
Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
There can only be one program.
Flash doesn't need that. I can't remember how it works, but you can make a sprite move and put it was a Movie clip and then have it walk across the screen.

Oh, I wasn't saying you need Fireworks, I was just using it as an example to make an animation. XD
With Flash, if you have it already, you can make the animation, preview it, and record it with a free recorder (like Hypercam2, for example). It's been forever since I've used Flash, so if it can send an animation as a movie file, then you won't need a recorder.
However, if you're wanting to make the sprites appear to walk without being controlled by a player, then you can use Vegas to Chroma Key the animation so it can appear to walk on a map. Hope this helps.
Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
Recording the animation won't work for that reason, actually. I'll still have the background. I'll be using HyperCam to record the whole video so I can play with it in Windows Movie Maker (which has new effects now that my friend found).
I read a book on how to use Flash CS4. I just can't remember how to get the sprite to move around as a movie clip.
I don't know what's going on yet because she says (all animation programs) are stupid because they cost so much and if the computer crashes she loses it. I can see her point with that, but once you have the disk you can put it on more than one computer and I have a relative that would be able to get the information off of her computer and put it on a new one.

Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
I see... If you're friend let's you add Vegas to your comp, then the background isn't a huge issue for you can use an effect called the Chroma Key to get rid of the background.
Hope you can find out what's going on soon.

That might not be for a while yet that I'll know. I'll ask her when I can.

Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
I use Sony Vegas 9.0 for my series, including 3D effects.
I'm thinking of trying out 11 to see how it is, and to see if it helps me on my 3D effects more.

Tyler you said something about Sony Vegas 11 and 3D effects, is it got some new stuff on that or something? o.o
Edit: Oh wait that was Manga Dragon who said that, derp.
Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
From what I can tell from a picture of it I saw, 3D as in the need for 3D glasses.
I don't know when that will be useful for a hack.
I still don't know anything. I haven't been able to talk to her in a few days, so hopefully tonight.

I've used Vegas 9.0 and messed with the 3d items. And you don't need the glasses. For hacking more of a flat 2D Route or so can be seen if you tilted you laptop'a screen. (If you have one.)

Ew actual 3D Glasses stuff? Don't even bother using that, I'm talking about 3D environments and effects.
Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
I don't have a laptop yet. I'm using a Netbook right now and I plan on getting a laptop that's fast enough to handle programs like Vegas and Flash.
Yeah, actual 3D.
She should know by Tuesday.
Flash CS4 can make images (like Movie clips) follow a path that you draw on the screen. Does Vegas do this? That's something I need considering the animation isn't even in the ROM itself and the sprites have to be done on Paint.

Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
Well... Vegas can't really do a set path, but it is possible to make images move via messing around with the time frame.
Hope that answers the question.

Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
Sony Vegas 11 comes with new effects, including starburst, which became my new favorite. I recommend Vegas 11 for hacks since I used it, until I got my new toy :3

While we're on the subject of croma keyer...can someone explain how it works?

Re: Which Sony Vegas Pro?
Apply chroma keyer to a clip, and whatever color you select is removed from the clip, kinda like green screen. Be careful. It's known to remove the hue from other somilar colors as well. Such as removing red and the orange in the clip gets distorted.

This. Normally, I just go for the eye dropper tool, click on the BG of what I want to get rid of, and it's gone. Although there have been issues where it went awry, like removing a dark brown when I clicked on the black BG of an animation. ^^;
