Animation (Trope)

(This trope is specifically made for the Hacker Community. You will not find a page that is exactly titled "Animation" anywhere on TV Tropes.)

Animation is (as you probably already know) the rapid display of a sequence of images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions in order to create an illusion of movement.

Since its discovery within the hacker community, animation has been used regularly in many hacks. The most basic way to animate is directly from the ROM (i.e. ROM animation), which requires you to change the sprites from Overworld Editor repeatedly. Hypercam is often used to imitate shaking/earthquake effects, if access to Vegas or other similar video editors is not available. This form of animation is considered to be tedious, and is very limited in comparison to other, more recent ways of animating.

The form of animation used most often now is a combination of Fireworks and Vegas/other similar video editors. It is significantly less limited than ROM animation, and is considered to be more convenient.

- Andrew (formerly known on YouTube as XAndrewwilsonX before his suspension, and now goes by KAMIKOMAI) was the first person to discover how to animate in hacking. He was initially overlooked in favor of the more popular hackers, such as ShadowElliot, TrainerDor, sannaCollier, and GoldsAdventureStorys. It was not until animation began to become more popular that Andrew became more recognized.

- Gold (known on YouTube as GoldsAdventureStorys) is considered to be the main reason for the spread of animation within hacking. His developing animation within Pokemon Gold's Adventures: Destiny of a Hero served as a basis for other hackers, eventually causing animation to be used much more often.
